In the Heat Of the Night review

To start, Heat of the Night felt way too slow. It did not pique my interest. The only part that piqued it was truly that mystery aspect of the movie. The movie just felt way longer because of the slow pace of the movie. The movie oddly very timeless. I feel like the same plot could be reproduced today and still feel very realistic. The title is perfect for the plot of the movie.

I walked in late, so the movie had already started, and I am immediately introduced to this cop. He seemed overworked and bored out of his mind. He begins to ride around the neighborhood until he stumbles across naked women in their homes. The feminist part of me hates it and it just felt like it was so unneeded. The other two parts, the gay and a person who loves to dissect a character, loved that part. It added a bit of spice to the movie and added a lot to the plot and character development.

Sam Wood during this time was on duty doing nothing. You could tell he just wanted something to happen. So, when several pair of breasts come forth, he is immediately enthralled. The audience will immediately also feel the emotion that the police officer is feeling. It just also adds to the reasoning on why he was so adamant about putting Vigil behind bars. Sam just wanted to feel accomplished on his slow and “uneventful” night.

Vigil Tibbs is a very intriguing character. He was profiled in the beginning as a murderer to which come out that he is actually a detective, a detective that is more highly ranked and paid more. He shatters all the white people’s preconceptions of him as soon as he explains his rank. This forces so much growth out of the police force and even the people of the town. Without Vigil, the case would have never been solved or solved correctly.
